Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Review
Yogurt is a great, guilt-free snack for both adults and kids. With this yogurt maker, it's easy to add favorite flavors--including exotic and sweet fruits, rich crunchy nuts, and natural sweeteners--to basic yogurt. Just follow the recipes, supplied by the manufacturer, and a nutritious snack, with very little fat and no preservatives (like most commercial brands), is not too far away. Making yogurt takes from 4 to 10 hours to process, depending on desired tartness of the batch. If you're looking for frozen yogurt, you do have to chill it for 2 hours in the freezer before consumption after it's made. The yogurt can be stored up to one week. --Teresa Simanton

5 out of 5 stars I use this all the time   July 3, 2009
I got a bit sick of buying yogurt at the store and having to wait for a sale price..with this there is no more waiting for sales. I can make fresh yogurt all the time. I purchase some of those little freezer jelly containers. I fill the bottoms with whatever fruit, jam, syrup, nuts, or whatever and then just fill them up with the finished yogurt. This is really nice as I never have to run out of yogurt. As I speak I bought a yogurt cheese maker and have some draining in the refrigerator. In fact I just ordered some sweet yogurt culture on the net. I have found 3 different varieties by Googling..the reg, Bulgarian and the sweet. Now be sure when you are heating your milk for your yogurt that you do not overheat(carefully follow instructions for temperature) otherwise you will get a bunch of separation of curds and whey...worst case senario those, you can use it for cheese.

5 out of 5 stars Great product but...price is too high   July 3, 2009
I bought this product on Amazon in April 2009 for $23.74. I can't believe this new price. It has a plastic housing which works just fine but not for $200! I had bought it directly Amazon, sure glad I didn't wait on that one.

1 out of 5 stars Is this made of gold? silver?   July 1, 2009
I was planning on getting this, but the price is way way too much. $199?? Someone needs to get real and fix the price issue here.

4 out of 5 stars PRICE GOUGING!   June 30, 2009

I bought this for my mom for Mother's Day this year ('09). On the plus side, she really really likes it and it works great. It's really a very simple mechanism and while there are other ways to make your own yogurt, this ensures a perfect result with no fuss. When I bought it LAST MONTH it was $[...]. Exactly this machine. I can't for the life of me figure out why it's almost [...] BUCKS now, can you? I was considering getting one for myself because my mom likes it so much, but for that rate of inflation I think I'll use the old heating pad method. What's up with that Amazon?

4 out of 5 stars Love it!- don't know what is up with the price right now- I only paid $20 or $30 not $149.   June 11, 2009

(right now they have the yogurt machine at $149 which I can't believe, I bought mine for either $20 or $30 on amazon about 5 months ago so you may want to search elsewhere for it.)

I love this machine and I've had it now for about 5 months. I have two little girls that eat ALOT of yogurt and organic at that. Yobaby is around $4 for 6 little containers and has added sugar, this way I can make organic yogurt with no added sugar for cheap. I make at least one batch a week but sometimes as much as 3. I've only had a bad batch once and it could have been because it was so hot in my house that it affected the temp. in the machine or it could have been that I saw a crumb get into the batch as I made it and that could have killed the culture. The only negative I have for the machine is that the plug has a warning about it having lead in it (that's why it didn't get 5 stars), the only other negative is the plastic container but I use a glass canning jar which fits perfect and works fine.
I do hate how they call this a yogurt "maker", you actually make the yogurt and the machine acts like a thermos keeping it at the right temp. Making the yogurt is simple:
I heat milk in the microwave for 6 or so minutes (I used to take the temp but after making it so many times I know how much it takes) and then let it sit for 20-30 min., put in a 1/2 cup of yogurt (I usually use Brown Cow or Stoneyfield as my starter) and put in the machine for 12-24 hours (the longer it is in there the thicker it is). This yogurt is tangier than normal yogurt but my 2.5 year old loves honey in hers and my 9 month old just has it plain.
I also bought the Donvier yogurt cheese maker with the machine and I love making yogurt cheese, it is such a healthier alternative to sour cream and cream cheese. I use it for dips and in recipes. I couldn't believe how much I used it once I had it. The contraption works great and I like how it has a top and everything for storage in the fridge. I highly recommend buying this with the machine.
