Product Description Korg tuners and metronomes are acclaimed for their extremely high accuracy and superb features. Korg TM-40 combines these two functions into a single compact easy-to-use unit. A great lesson and practice tool, the TM-40 offers both tuner and metronome functions simultaneously or independently in a handheld unit that you can carry everywhere. Its large LCD-type needle delivers both the accuracy of an LCD and the excellent visibility of a needle indicator. It also has LED indicators that show pitch deviation or blink to indicate the tempo, making the TM-40 a highly visual tool. The TM-40's Calibration setting is adjustable in a range of 410~480 Hz to accommodate a variety of tuning standards. The calibration can be adjusted in 1 Hz steps, letting you accurately tune to any song or key. Memory backup is also provided so that the Calibration and Sound Out ( 12 NOTES or ABb ) settings are remembered even when the power is turned off. When intervals of a third are played out of tune in the context of a brass band, orchestra, or other ensemble, it is particularly noticeable. But those intervals can be made to blend more pleasantly by slightly adjusting them (relative to the equal-tempered pitch) to a pure major or minor third. The TM-40's meter scale provides markings to indicate pitches of a pure major and pure minor third relative to a selected pitch. By tuning your instrument so that the meter's indicator needle points to these markings, you can ensure beautiful harmonies when playing in an ensemble. This capability is very useful not only for wind instruments, but also for vocal or a cappella practice. The metronome section offers convenient functions for practicing a variety of music. Beat mode - choose from preset patterns. Beat mode lets you choose a preset tempo and time signature, and Tap mode lets you specify your own tempo. It contains a large speaker that produces a clear and distinct metronome sound

Awesome : Value for Money March 10, 2010 Wild Horse My Son uses for his piano lessons and practice and never heard any complain from him or his instructor...
Very compact unit and easy to use button.
I like it and it works... Metronome is a beep though March 1, 2010 Racer72 (St. Louis, MO) I'm new to guitar and have been told to get a metronome that clicks and not one with a beep. So far, it is not annoying me like was suggested. The tuner is great and picks up sound well. I am satisfied with it :)
Korg TM-40 Tuner & Metronome February 17, 2010 Cynthia G. Parker (YORK, PA, US) The metronome is not clear. It is hard to enter because the buttons are too close together. It takes me a couple of tries to get what I want to come on. If I had a chance to preview this item before I purchased it, I probably would have passed on this one.
Perfect! February 16, 2010 Ryan Hollis (The great state of Mississippi) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This metronome/tuner is perfect for guitar. I have only tuned by plugging in my electric guitar. It was very responsive. by this I mean that you dont have to turn the knob, then wait a moment for the screen to catch up. The tuner seems very accurate. I tuned my guitar with this tuner, used my 1/4" to USB converter and plugged it into my MacBook Pro. It was very close on every string, but I have never been too sure about the quality of the Garage Band tuner. The Garage Band tuner flitters back and forth from tuned to low or high, yet the needle on the Korg is very steady. This makes it much easier to get it perfect by the tuner. I would like to believe that the Korg is more accurate than my computer, but I guess I have nothing to base that on. If it isn't, it at least it's way easier to use. Plug it in, turn it on, end of story. It detects if something is plugged in and uses it instead of the microphone automagically. The deal where you tune it to the pitch it plays kind of has an annoying sound. I am not good with tuning that way, so I don't use it. Plus, why would you use it if you have a real tuner in your same hand.
The only complaint I have, is I wish you could tell it which string you want to tune, instead of only having it tell you what note is being played.
The metronome is also very good. It has more features than I knew a metronome could have, but I know nothing about metronomes. I love the feature where you tap the button twice and it automagicaly metronomes at the rate you hit the button. They should use this same technology in windshield wiper blades. I have wished this for a long time, even before I got this tuner. Just saying. The thing beeps instead of clicks. If you really want clicks, don't get this. Its NBD for me.
Both parts can be used at the same time. Never used both at the same time, but it's good to know.
The buttons and features of this thing are not completely obvious. Just read the page it gives you. As us nerds say, RTFM.
A great buy! February 6, 2010 A. Simon (CORVALLIS, OR, US) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This metronome/tuner is perfect for anyone looking for a great quality tuner for a good price. It shipped quickly and came in perfect condition, and I was able to take it right out of the box and use it immediately. Being a brass player, it's nice to have something like this to help you tune your instrument as best as you can. And with the metronome included with it, I can practice music with a great assortment of time signatures, and even sub-divide parts into either and sixteenth notes. Overall, This is a great product that I would recommend to anybody looking for a tuner/metronome.
