5 out of 5 stars Great for touch-typing on IPad!   September 4, 2010
Mark K. Riordan (Provincetown, MA United States)
The IPad keyboard is much easier for me to use than the IPhone. Obviously, because it is bigger. However, I find it very difficult to touch-type, so I'm using the pecking method. I thought I would try this keyboard, since it is wireless and I can sit in the arm chair and bed and write to my hearts content. I was really concerned that I would have a difficult time typing on 'chicklet' keys. I'm happy to find that I'm typing much faster on this keyboard than on the raised keys I'm am familiar with.
The keyboard is extremely light and has a smooth, sleek, aluminum casing.

Something to bear in mind. If anyone has seen video reviews on this product, the batteries are packaged separately. This was not the case when I received it. The batteries were, in fact, already installed. It takes 2 AA's. I can't speak for the battery life as I've just received it. Get rechargeable. Saves a lot of money.

If you are not a heavy typer, then I would say that the on board keyboard on the IPad will suit most needs. For a constant touch-typer, this is a perfect keyboard.

So far I'm very satisfied with this product.

Someday I won't love something made by Apple. This isn't it. I found a bunch of keyboard shortcuts that work with this wireless keyboard and I'm loving the compatibility with my ipad. The two go together so well I hate to go to work (no wireless for ipad yet).

I now have the perfect setup. Lay on comfortable couch with ipad mounted on a little shelf. Keyboard on pillow on lap. After 2 days can type most all keys without looking. Kinda fun to re-learn typing.

Found a couple of web sites that list about a dozen shortcuts that work most of the time.

Found a web site with 75 shortcuts for ipad in general (I knew about half).

Now this combo of ipad and wireless keyboard is incredibly productive for email, work comm., etc.

Love it

Yes, this keyboard is small and light and easy to set up with an iPad. And yes, it's sure easy to use an iPad with a keyboard and it makes a nice laptop replacement for short trips when you don't plan to do anything complex.

However, I think this keyboard has a fatal flaw in that you really can't tell by looking at it whether it's on or off. To turn it on, you just press the button, the green light flashes, then turns off. To turn it off, I think you hold the button down for a while, and the green light lights up and turns off again. If you're not sure, I suppose you might find your iPad and see if the little Bluetooth icon is on or off, or try holding down the button, or just wait until the battery is dead.

Plus, the power switch is right on the edge of the keyboard. So, let's imagine that you put the keyboard in your bag in the trunk of your car, then put the iPad in the front seat for your wife to use while you drive. Chances are (because this happened to me three times already) that something will bump against the on switch, the keyboard will turn on, and your iPad will start to behave strangely because now you have attached a keyboard -- the on-screen keyboard might show up, or it might start launching apps at random, or playing music, or you name it. Sure, I could always turn off bluetooth when putting the keyboard away and turn it back on using Settings on the iPad but the reason I have an iPad is so that I don't need to worry about all that stuff!

Perhaps this is nit picking but this is an Apple product and I'm not supposed to have to think too hard to figure out how to use this keyboard, but I think that the design of this keyboard does not consider use by actual people.

And I read some reviewers gushing about how great this keyboard is to type on. I mean, compared to the on-screen keyboard, sure, it's great, but let's not get carried away here -- is a compact chiclet-style keyboard and if you type a lot for a living it will drive you nuts.

My first pricey keyboard was a Creative Fatal1ty board, which was great for a while...until the backlight died and I found out how hard it was to keep the thing clean.

I decided to buy this to work with my PS3. There's just one issue with the PS3, and I don't know if there's something I'm doing wrong, but sometimes, when I turn the PS3 on, the keyboard isn't recognized, so I have to go to the settings and manually reconnect the device, but it's a dream, other than that.
The board is really light; the battery life is pretty amazing (months with regular batteries and with rechargeables, I'm sure you'd be in business for more than a year, without needing a new set); It's really sturdy. I've dropped the board plenty of times, and it still looks and works great. The board is really easy to keep clean too (I've never tried taking off any of the keys, but cleaning the board with a damp cloth does a great job for topical stains).

I haven't tried to board with a pc yet, but I look forward to it and matching the board with my tower by getting it painted.

The only con to me is that it doesn't have a backlight (which would make it great in the dark)...but I don't know what kind of strain that would put on the batteries and how long the light would last. I never used the numberpad, so I don't miss it. I thought I might've been paying a little too much, at first...but I haven't regretted buying this keyboard, not once.
